Name
Digit span (DS)
Description
Digit span is a cognitive assessment tool used to measure working memory, attention, and short-term auditory memory.
Comment
Test is preforming before two errors occurred at the same list length (maximal span) and prior to making two successive errors at the same list length (total score).
Keywords
Digit span
digit span forward test
digit span backwards test
DSF
DSB
short-term verbal memory
neuropsychological assessment.
Purpose
To record a result of the digit span forward and backwards test.
Use
Use to record the result of digit span forward and backwards test.

0..* | CLUSTER |
An instance of one round of the digit span test.
Comment
Consists of two digit spans that have to be repeated (in reverse order for BS) by the subject.
CLUSTER
|
First digit span
|
0..1 | DV_TEXT |
The first of two digit spans the subject has to repeat.
Comment
Record in reverse order for BS.
|
Result of first digit span
|
0..1 | DV_ORDINAL |
The result of the first digit span answer.

|
Second digit span
|
0..1 | DV_TEXT |
The second of two digit spans the subject has to repeat.
Comment
Record in reverse order for BS.
|
Result of second digit span

0..1 | DV_ORDINAL |
The result of the second digit span answer.
Constraint for DV_ORDINAL

Reliable digit span (RDS)
|
0..1 | DV_COUNT |
The longest sequence of numbers that the individual can accurately recall without errors across both the forward and backward tasks.

Trial not completed
|
0..1 | DV_BOOLEAN |
Could the trial not be completed or was the trial terminated prematurely?
Comment
Record as True if the trial was not able to be completed as per the standard methodology. Please specify reasons for this separately. A successful trial needs not to be specifically marked.
Constraint for DV_BOOLEAN
|
Reasons for non-completion
|
0..1 | DV_TEXT |
Record the reasons if the trial was not completed or the test was terminated prematurely.
Comment
Example reasons for non-completion include (but are not limited to), if the patient's disease has progressed or physical limitations prohibit him from completing the trial, age-related declines in visual acuity or color vision, low contrast sensitivity, red/green color weakness, , color blindness, testing at nonoptimal times (i.e., evening), indicate "Unable to complete trial due to physical limitations" or . In addition, record any specifics that can be observed (i.e., "Patient lost the vision and unable to complete the test"). If the patient did not complete a trial for any other reason, specify this as well (e.g., "Patient fell and was too fatigued to complete another trial", or "Patient refused to complete trial").
